Street prostitution is a form of sex work in which a sex worker solicits customers from a public place, most commonly a street, while waiting at street corners or walking alongside a street, but also other public places such as parks, benches, etc. The street prostitute is often dressed in a provocative manner. The sex act may be performed in the customer’s car or in a nearby secluded street location, or at the prostitute’s residence or in a rented motel room. Street prostitution is often illegal, even in jurisdictions that allow other forms of prostitution. In some jurisdictions where prostitution itself is legal, such as in the United Kingdom, street prostitution has been made illegal. Some jurisdictions also outlaw kerb crawling, slowly driving around with the intent to procure the services of a prostitute. In Australia, in New South Wales it is legal to solicit on the streets, except in some areas (such as near schools). The other Australian states and territories prohibit street solicitation, although some of these jurisdictions allow licensed brothels
Yau Ma Tei & Mong Kok
Yau Ma Tei
Yau Ma Tei is an area in the Yau Tsim Mong District in the south of the Kowloon Peninsula. To the north of that is the Mong Kok area. My post on Hong Kong explains more about the different parts of Hong Kong. Yau Ma Tei, is the region between the Jordan and Yau Ma Tei MTR stations and the Mong Kok area continues from Yau Ma Tei to Prince Edward MTR stations. Within the two areas are plenty of what is called walk-ups or One Women Brothels which are not illegal by any means.

Is Wan Chai Good and Safe to Hang Out?
A Question I was asked is if Wan Chai is safe and good area to Hang Out. A simple answer is Yes (not much of a choice…. just kidding). Again, Yes. Hong Kong is safe. People may not be humble as in some other Asian cities but that’s due to (what I feel) how they communicate. There are plenty of nice bars around. Although the freelancers hang around the area of Taboo and Amazonia, they are not in 100s and make no mistake, they are two of the best bars in the area. If you are prepared to shut your ears off those who may say “Hi how are you honey” when you walk in the area Taboo and Amazonia are nice bars to Hang Out at and the free lancers will not hassle you inside. They will get their ass kicked if they do. For me, I would prefer Wan Chai to Lan Kwai Fong. There are some small nice bars around the area as well.
Lan Kwai Fong
Lan Kwai Fong is a small square of streets in Central, Hong Kong. The area was dedicated to hawkers before the Second World War and underwent a renaissance in the mid-1980s. Today, it is a very popular expat haunt in Hong Kong for drinking, clubbing and dining. It is not unusual to find drunk women at even 10pm. A Street in the area actually closes on Saturday and Sunday evenings to make way for the large crowds. Being and expat haunt and somewhat a tourist haunt, it is not unlikely you can hit upon a lady out for some fun.

Wan Chai 3
If you landed on this page out of the blues, it means you have not yet seen the first 2 posts on Wan Chai. Yes, there is Wan Chai 1 and Wan Chai 2. This is the third post specific to Wan Chai in 2019. There are lots more to read about Hong Kong and the fun and sex life in Hong Kong. I did say before in the first Hong Kong post that Hong Kong is actually a very fascinating place. The fun side of Hong Kong is run by expats. Wan Chai its self is an interesting place. There are plenty of bars where you can pick up women for fun. Bar 109 where the women don’t take more than a few minutes to kiss you! Guess what! They are not locals. Street Walkers are in plenty. But gone are the days that street walkers used to be low class scantily clad women. You can find some stunners out there.

As I promised, here’s Wan Chai 2. If you haven’t read the First of Wan Chai posts for 2019 then you should go back and read that. That is where I wrote about the famous Bar 109 and the Sunday afternoon Parties. So let me restart from where I left and talk about what happens in the places I refer to as “Underground and Overhead” venues – the likes of Neptune 3, Hong Kong Café, Makati that have afternoon parties. The story after the afternoon parties and on weeknights is a bit different. Then there are those who spend vacation in Hong Kong and engage in some form of “working” to cover the cost of the vacation and then also the street walkers.
Afternoon parties are mainly to cater for the Domestic Helpers who come in large numbers to spend their Sunday afternoon. As I said before a sizable portion of expat workers are the Domestic Helpers. Apart from that there are also those who have regular jobs such as work in beauty salons, other restaurants, bars who work 5 to 6 days a week and have an evening off on a weekday. Where do they go when they want some fun? The Underground and Overhead venues – the likes of Neptune 3, Hong Kong Café, Makati, Sparks and even Escape. They are all patronised by few groups of people at night. Most venues do not have cover charge or at least I have not come across any who do have cover charge at night other than the eve of a public holiday if at all. However, not sure about Makati. During my visit to Hong Kong once during Chinese New year, on all 4 days I was there, I never went to Makati because of cover charge. However, I have been to all venues that I talk about at some time.

About Wan Chai
Out of all Hong Kong hot-spots, Wan Chai is the most exciting, vibrant and entertaining. To recap on what Wan Chai is, it is a busy commercial area filled with office workers, shoppers, specialty spots and the very lively bars and night clubs along Lockhart Road. Lockhart Road forms the Center piece of Wan Chai’s exciting nightlife area. Jaffe Road runs parallel to Lockhart. Connecting the two are Luard Road which is where lot of the street walkers hang around. Parallel to Luard Road are Fenwick Street on one side and Obrien Road on the other. Together, they form a two block rectangle where the hype of activity is. If you get to the intersection of Lockhart Road and Jaffe Road or the Intersection of Jaffe Road and Luard Road, you can pretty much see everything around. Guess you are not going to be staying in Wan Chai like you do and need to take MTR. Take the MTR to Wan Chai station and take exit C. When you get to the street, turn left and walk towards the intersection of Lockhart Road and Jaffe Road. You will pass the Makati Pub & Disco. This joint sometimes charges you $500 to get in. Not only on a Sunday afternoon but on evenings as well.
Video 8: Good bye Wan Chai Street Walkers!
Walkabout in Hong Kong, Wan Chai area at night. Spotlight on the Street Walkers or Freelancers! The area outside the Escape Night Club on Jaffe Road in Wan Chai is a hotspot for African freelancers as most would call them (or freelance sex workers) who usually move between Escape and Amazonia along Jaffe Road.
